Steve began his career in 1973 as a Special Education Teacher of students who are severely emotionally impaired, both elementary and secondary, at Kent Education Center in Grand Rapids Public Schools. He then earned a master’s degree in Clinical and School Social Work in 1980 from Grand Valley State University and practiced School Social Work for the next 30 years in Grand Rapids. In addition to working in the schools, Steve began a private practice working with Dr. Robert Bulten, who specialized in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and behavior disorders for children, adolescents and adults. After ten years, Steve moved his private practice to Psychology Associates of Grand Rapids where he worked part time for the 20 years, specializing in child and adolescent treatment focusing on ADHD, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, family struggles and learning problems. Steve is a kind, empathic, respectful and caring person who incorporates humor and fun to the therapeutic experience and is very good at developing relationships and building on those relationships in a therapeutic environment. Steve enjoys helping people understand and cope with ADHD. His specialties are ADHD evaluations and ongoing psychotherapy for children and adults.
